And BJSCIVIC, get your ass down here soon! I heard it's going down to 5 degrees tonight where you live! See you real soon!
I can't wait to get there!!! You are true. It's gonna get LOW tonight!!! This sucks! I can't wait to show you my ride!!! You will not recognize it when you come back to help pack.
New news....I just played guinee(sp) pig for a new type of tint that Full Blown is about to use. 20% tint all around FREE OF CHARGE w/ a lifetime warranty at any Global Tint & Films dealer in the country.
Damn!!! Now I need to start my own progress thread! Sorry for hijacking VIET!!!
Jon finally got his engine stand back and my motor and all the goodies are it his house at the moment. We'll probably work on it this Wednesday. I'm really looking forward to make some progress with the motor build.
so we torn down the block and started to notch it. we used a carbide burr and it worked for about half of one notch. so does any know a good tool to use to grind aluminum? i was thinking using another carbide burr but one thats made for aluminum, but it is like $10-$15 for a really small burr. if anyones got any ideas lmk.
the first is a graph of the piston position, then piston velocity, then piston acceleration. the first 3 are pretty basic, the velocity is just the derivative of position and acceleration is the derivative of velocity. If you dont know what a dereivative is just look at it and think about whats going on and it makes sense. The last graph is te wristpin force. Its high at the beginning because thats the combustion phase. These came from a prgram out of one of my books from last semester. Pretty cool cause you can mess with bore and stroke ratios and see how it affects it.
Well finally got all the grinding done. Thanks to Josh E. with his mini belt sander thing. It should be going out to a shop to get honed, cleaned and the crank polished. Thanks Jon for doing that for me while I goto work.
I think we plan to actually start building it next week Thursday. I'm ready to get this sucker done. I hoping for all the bearings to be with in spec, but I doubt that'll happen. So it will be another week or 2 before it is ready.
Oh and Jon might have broke my turbo, so I might be getting a cool new one.
Jon also has some video and pictures from the work done today.
Well good news and bad news on my build. Block is done and ready to be picked up, but the crank is fubar'd! So I am looking for another crankshaft. They offered to sell me a crankshaft kit that comes with a reground crankshaft and the bearing for it for around $200. I dunno if I wanna get a new crank or just go with that crankshaft kit.
ouch, that sucks. at least the block made it though. everybody usually just goes with stock cranks, right? 200 doesnt sound bad, but i've never purchased a honda crank before.
well got the block back from the machine shop. its nice and clean, hopefully i can get the rest of the engine bay as clean. i also order their rank kit and should be getting it within a day or 2. so engine build will commence very soon!! still need to get a few things i think i should be able to get the rest of the stuff within this week or the next.
So I got my new crank shaft and we started the engine build yesterday. I had to leave early for work, but from what jon told me he ran into a slight problem. The tolerances on the 2 outside main bearings were a tad bit loose. I dont know the exact numbers, but I think jon does.
Well none of the bearings were really good. The clearance specs are .0007" - .0014" for the outside bearings and .0009" - .0017" for the insides. The insides were just under .002" and the outsides a tad wider. Viet is gonna order some oversized bearings to get it in spec. Hopefully he gets them today.
And for picture time
We started the build in the kitchen to keep out of the dusty garage.
so i got the bearings and the new oil pump, but i didn't order enough bearings. i was thinking they came in pairs, but they obviously didn't. hopefully i can go down to honda and get the others.
