RE: Mr. Project

that was my thinking with the half way down thing.  its not ideal for holding up the hoop, but the rear bars will hold up the top.

also, i was thinking we could add a horizontal bar to support an aluminum seat that would could make.  i can post pics if you cant "see" it

oh and i plan on drawing the roll bar up in catia when i get my computer back up and running

well it looks like it is coming along nice. What are you guys going to do to the car next time you work on it.

We also need to figure out what is going on when i pull the motor out of the supercharged car that is coming up this weekend.

little update...i went out to the garage for a bit tonight.

I scraped some more sound deadening crap off of the interior.  I found out why the car rolls so badly....the tires rub the shock bodies because they're so damn big.  and then you can see my shop additions and the car cover i picked up from my dad.

i thought we talked abt this when you were over.  i guess we need to get our hands on a trailer.  did you call lkq and see if we can just drop off the car on saturday? Jon's supposed to be coming up here on wed and friday.  i'll see if he can bring the 4 runner up, but i dunno.

edit: i called lkq, they said they can take cars on saturday no prob

edit:  i talked to jon and i think we might be getting a 14' uhaul and putting it in the back.  he said he measured one for a saturn for a customer and it was no prob.  we're going to need some help getting it in there, but a few guys should be able to do it no prob.  I'm going to make the reservation for friday at like 4pm for 24hrs.

the  garage is looking nice. i got a pile of scrap from travis today. its mostly stainless sheet, 16 gauge i think but theres also a few pieces of aluminum and some bent pieces. so we should be able to do some fabricating

i should be able to bring the 4runner up on friday if needed but i think the uhaul truck will work best since the car wont have any suspension. and jamin, 24 hrs on a friday, do you think thats possible?

i found some pics showing some of my thoughts for the roll bar.  and then there's that really sick car to look at too

I like the hoop, the diagonal, and the seat supports.  also, the mounting spot for the side impact deal is good, but ours would go down forward to the floor.

Here you can see the rear bars that go to the strut towers, and the lexan rear window with the cutouts and aluminum reenforcements.

and this is what we should be working towards

awesome     where do you think those rear strut towers mount? its hard to tell in the picture

i think that style seat would be pretty easy to build. as long as someone can sew a cover

it looks like they go to the strut tower about where it mounts up with the unibody.

i dont think sewing is that hard, we could probably get some industrial strength vinyl or something and sew it up.  a nice stiff foam too.

man you guys have that car apart. I cant wait to see the finshed product. I hope that you guys can give it a decent paint job besides flat black. That would be sweet. What are you guys going to do for like motor mods and such?

JAMIN- I need to talk to you to see what you want me to get to do my new exhaust, that is if you still want to do it.

did a little research and found what axles we need exactly. We need the complete short s/c axle and a 1 turbo axle with the cv from the long s/c axle. I saw a few pictures and I think the automatice axles are the same as teh manual. plus in all the research I did nobody said that it has to be a manual s/c axle or not. oh and the turbo axle could be from either side.

so we pretty much have most of the axles except for the turbo one.

i think the first thing that needs to be done is going through the parts again.  There's a bunch of crap in there we should just throw away.  I'm going to make a new mr2oc post, some kind of clearance sale.  I'll post up a few of the good things we have left for real cheap, then we can just throw away the rest of that junk.

we really dont have room to bring over the tranny and work very efficiently the way it is.

this wont take long, then we can work on getting the body done so we can start reassembling the car.

hopefully we'll be able to get some crap done this week since there's no school. I will probably order the poly bushing kit today or tomorrow so we can get the suspension back on.

any objections to me spending that $100 on it?

we could pick up the tranny any time.....but the problem is keeping it somewhere. we need to start putting this thing back together so it doesnt take up so much room....which means finishing the bodywork and paint.....

whos up for working on it this week?

well i got the control arms and hubs apart mostly today. We'll need to take them to get the old bushing pressed out, and the new ones pressed in. I should be able to do this over at the SAE shop.

Got the bushings in the mail today. They look nice.

oh and jon put the fenders and bumper on, and looks like he did some work on the c-pillar too. he did this yesterday after the beach when i was at work.

the car is coming along slowly. i hope to get more done this break.......

you probably noticed the passenger fender isnt solid. thats because i broke the bottom bolt. we can just weld it or drill the rest of that bolt out. i put the black bumper on because it is lighter and i stripped the junk out of it to lighten it even more.

im probably gonna head out there saturday and work all day on it
