After going through the whole scooter and getting it running good I went to go register it. I had already fixed all kinds of problems with it. I had to get a battery and some parts, make a seat and battery bracket, basically reassemble the engine. The engine was brand new but put together completely wrong so I had to fix that. Then when I went to register the guy at the counter left me to talk to his boss. After they had talked for a few minutes, glancing at me oddly the whole time, the guy came back and told me that the scooter had been reported stolen. They basically just said fix it and then bring it back. So I called the police departement to try to get it figured out. They told me a cop had to come by to take a look at it. So 2 cops show up at my house and started asking me questions. They found out that the scooter had been registered with the DMV to a black female and she is the one that reported it stolen. However, I bought it from some other kid which had the title in his name. The two didnt add up so they had to impound my scooter. I guess there is a detective that will try to sort it out and hopefully get the scooter back to me. If not then I am out 50 bucks. And the best part is that they brought a flat bed tow truck to take it away. It made a huge seen. All my neighbors came out to see why there were 2 cop cars and flashing lights at my house. It was pretty hilarious to see a scooter getting loaded on a giant tow truck.
that would only happen to you, jon. lol But yeah, that sucks really bad. Did you give the cops the info you had on the kid you bought it from? Maybe the black lady left the title in the scooter or something stupid like that.
OR, maybe she saw the scooter and wanted it. Then she goes to the cops and reports it stolen, but claims that she left the title in the scooter by accident. What a bitch.
The kid's info was on the title and they took that as evidence. I couldn't find his number cause the ad has expired. The wierd thing is that he legitimately had his name on the title and it was legitimately registered to the black lady with the DMV. The cops said that he could have made a duplicate title, then sold the scooter to the lady. Then he stole it back and sold it to me. Thats a retarded idea though because his name is on the title.
I might be able to get his number off my cell phone bill so I'll call him and ask him what he did.
So after 2 days of going on a scavenger hunt of phone numbers. One person finally gave me the number of the person I needed to talk to. This guy didnt help me at all. He called my scooter cheap chinese junk and told me that I probably wont get it back and it will be destroyed.
I guess the problem is that the sticker with the VIN on it doesnt match the number on the scooter. The title matches the number on the sticker so he told me I bought the title to the sticker and not the scooter. If thats the case then I am taking my titled sticker back. I am also taking my seat, my seat brackets and all accompanying weld that connects them to the frame, my oil filter parts, my gas, and my oil.
I got the kid who sold me the scooter to call this guy and tell him that he has the reciept for his purchase and that he has the scooter registered. So I'll call back tomorrow and see what happens.
Ps: This is rediculous for a stupid little scooter.
Yea I got it back after it spent 3 months at the impound. Surprisingly it wasnt destroyed after all that time, well anymore than it was before it went in.
I didnt get the title back so I dont know what good it is.
