I saw this over on FD.com and thought it'd be fun to see whats up over here too. What are you plans for 2007 with your car/cars? I'll go first, although my list is short.
Wheels, coilovers, fix the problems, maybe sway bars and bushings, oh and a roof rack(going to start riding again).
I'm really getting to a point where a cheap car with thousands of dollars into it isn't rational anymore, so I'm going to keep it simple for 07 with the car. Probably look into getting a bike mid year, maybe sooner.
Well first off my goal is to keep this car for the year. Then i would have to say get new front hubs(broken lug bolts). I really want to boost it but i am not sure if that is a good idea. But if I do I have decided that it will be a super charger.
well, i've decided that i want to make the move from my Bug, to a Miata. The volkswagen is a terrible track car, it's going to need alot of money first before it will survive track duty. i also want to keep the modding to what i need. after watching Per from grassroots kick everyones ass with different struts and slicks, i've relized i need to spend more time out on the track than i do buying bits for my car and installing them.
the miata is a proven-great track vehicle, said so by many magazines, professional drivers and my experince at gainsville. so infact my goal this year would be to have a bulletproof track vehicle to help me gain as much experince as possible.

Replace old tired OE parts w/ new OE stuff. Maybe some aftermarket stuff. Fix vacuum leak issues w/ my new swap and get missing hoses. Really good alignment as my stuff is all jacked up during my swap. Upgrade my fuel system. Upgrade my cooling system. Chip ecu & tune. Integra GSR head w/ some work. '00 Si Tranny w/ Quaife LSD. Full Race Traction Bar. Slicks & Drag Wheels. New Shocks. Rear disc conversion maybe. Maybe boost after motor work....if I get sick of a built LSVtec.
I'm planning on resolving my turbo problem and getting it running solid and reliable. I'm also planning to attend all of the Brookesville autocross events and be competitive in points for the street mod class. That is if you're still up for it Tom? I'll probably do some crazy mods like really wide steelies and goofy headliner for street trim so I can still hangout with the style guys but my main focus is building it into a very fun street/auto-x car for a very cheap price.
It seems to be a reoccuring trend as of late, most people I know that have been mainstays of the car culture in Orlando are basically throwing in the towel. Totally understandable really, when you look at the money that goes into some of these cars. And honestly, it seems just like everyone is growing up, buying houses, getting 'career' jobs, things like that. I'm at that point myself, trying to decide what is sensible and thinking mroe like a year down the road than a month. I hate getting older.

I dont like throwing towels. Cars just have little problems compared to the rest of life so I'm gonna keep having fun. I can understand it though, its just not for me.
But in all seriousness, in the grand scheme things of things, modifying cars is so trivial. Maybe it's not about giving up, maybe it's about shifting interests. I can use myself as an example, in a few years I'd love to have my own home, and god forbid, maybe even a wife or a family, scary. So I can say to myself, that X amount of thousands of dollars I would spend on (insert car here) could go into my house, which most people consider to be really important. Being cynical here, but cars aren't going anywhere, and there will be plenty of time to build that car you always wanted when you use it as a break from the family and work and all that. My dad just recently moved out to Colorado from New York, and bought, before he got there, sight unseen, one of the first bikes he ever owned, a little RD125 Yamaha, just because he wanted one, few years prior, he bought a 1964 Ford Thunderbird Convertible, car he always wanted, just because he could. Point I'm trying to make, is that there is always 'another' car, 'another' bike, or what not, but I don't want to be 25 and still living in a place that is owned by someone other than myself. But, that is just me.
Whether or not I'll be able to stick to it, I have no idea. We'll see. I'm not trying to impose my ideals on anyone else, but it's just food for thought. My dad came to my place here when I had three cars in my name(Miata, MR2(20v), and my 510) and he loved them all, and it was good fun talking about them with him, but one thing he said to me, he said that if I wasn't putting away a substantial amount of money now, things are going to be pretty difficult later on in life. And coming from a guy who's had nothing handed to him, and was a mechanic all his life, I understand he only wants me to be a little better off.

/Rant off. I'm done now.

agreed there. you definately dont want to be spending money on cars when theres more important things.
