Ok since my work computer wont let me make a poll thread just give me your feed back. About 2 weeks ago Jon and I got the chance to ride in a MK III Jetta VR6 TURBO. It was probably one of the sickest cars i have been in. Now after talking with Jon a Few times I am really thinking about doing it. Now the only thing is I am gonna be running a the motor stock.
In the car we got to ride in his old motor was stock and he ran 17 PSI for one year and he drives his car harder than lucas. After a year it blew up.
But the average STOCK VR6 on about 7 psi makes about 300Hp so that is more that what i want so 7psi should be good. I really just want to know what you guys think and if I should or shouldnt do it.
...take it from me. i've been through a lot of turbo/car bs and i always come back for more. lol.
oh also dont set your limit on a boost level. it should be more of a power goal you want because 7 psi is different for each turbo, but i'm sure you knew that.
have you planned out what the turbo setup is going to consist of yet? if so post up what you think you'll be getting.
Ok well if I had a goal it would be probably about 280-300. I was talking to Jon about maybe a 20g turbo(retty common on DSM's) with just a average intercooler and for fuel well Mega splash.
Ok. Now of course my VR6 knowledge is not the greatest but you are probably going to need:
Injectors Fuel Pump Fuel Pressure Reg Turbo Manifold Boost Control, the TDO6 20G will need an external wastegate. Downpipe Exhaust Intercooler piping Blow Off Valve Intercooler Larger/better radiator (Power=Heat) Oil Lines Coolant Lines And a metric ass-ton of bolts, connectors, flanges gaskets, tubing, lines and about another 30 trips to ACE hardware.
And I am sure there is more.
The smartest approach would be to start collecting parts now, get it running NA with Mege Squirt and Spark and then lay on the boost. This way there will be less problems. The more you try to do to your car without having done it before means it is going to be a nightmare when something doesn't work, because trying to track it down means you have to look over EVERYTHING.

but you still have to look at it with all the possible problems. Theres alot of possibilities there. The best way to do it would be to take it slow and slowly build up the parts. Like Ian said get it up and running on mega spray first (launch control and flames out the exhaust are possible at this point), then do the fuel mods and get it running solid on those mods. After that do the turbo so you will only have to worry about turbo problems (like oil lines) at that point.
budget speed takes persistance but if you're willing to make the commitment then the end result is more than worth it.
yeah, i'd like to see you get the car running on megasquirt.....
dont even waste your time with anything else remotely related to the turbo yet, because that is a project and a half in iteself. good luck. aannnndddd.....GO!

Well what else is new. Jamin once again is doubt full and doesnt think i will do it. I am not gonna do it just for that reason. If and I say IF I were to turbo this car it would take time and yes getting it to run on mega squirt is probably the best step. I am just not sure what I want to actually do to this car. Now with the 2.0 yes low and slow was my best option. But with this car I am not gonna get on the staggered/strech wagon. I dont care go ahead Dave and Jamin and Darren hate all you want I drive the car everday not you guys. OK back to the topic yes i would like to look more into this and talk to Jon more about this.
the car is a 1995 VR6 140K now B4 it even gets mega squirt I am working out all the problems with the car right now and I am also gonna do the major overhaul like chains clutch and so on.
I didnt really look up the common problems just yet. But i do know that with 7 psi i shouldnt really have to worry about much. The stock tranny is good up to 350hp and I do plan on putting in a clutch and flywheel with my taxes.
