Jon's A4

I'm starting a thread about my car too since everybody's doing it. It changes constantly so it will get updated frequently.

Currently I'm working on my turbo setup. Here's how it progressed.

Started out building an adaptor to bolt to the stock manifold.

dropped this thing on it

made this downpipe

needless to say the ghetto adaptor soon broke. I wasnt really surprised. That downpipe lived for one run across the gandy bridge before it got cut up and went back on Viet's car where it came from

I then built this thing

and put the t3/t4 on it

That was going well. Had a slight boost problem cause of a loose wastegate actuator but still managed to run a 14.3 at FixxFest.
Then I hit a problem. I started getting smoke out of the exhaust. The oil seals on the turbo decided they'd stop working. The company I bought it from who I had tons of trouble with already went out of business so I got screwed on that deal. I cant afford a new turbo so I'm currently borrowing Viet's T3 while his car is down. I love that turbo. It spools fast and still holds over 20psi. The next turbo I buy will definately be a T3 super 60. I think it will easily get me to my goal of 300whp. But since I cant keep Viet's turbo and I cant afford a new one I've got another turbo in line. I'll be borrowing it from my friend Josh. Its an IHI off an old school 929. Its small but still bigger than the k-03.

So thats where my car sits now. Its fun for the moment

thats lame dont do the ihi turbo. why would you make a manifold for a t3 or t3/t4 and then adapt it to a weak ihi turbo? if anything goto the junkyard and get a t3.

Anyone want to buy a t3/t4 57 trim?

Well at least it isnt an arm and a leg to rebuild it. But it does suck that you have to do it.

Are you still thinking about getting a Super 60 or something more like Viet's turbo?

Haha. Its pretty much 'rich boys, welcome to the grassroots'

I think they need a lesson in MS and loving your wideband.

Hey Jon, I know you are thinking A2W, but what about a SRT-4 Intercooler? They are pretty thick, and will fit anywhere. There used to be a metric ton of the factory used ones on Ebay awhile back for cheap, but this seems to be it.

haha yea i dont think they've seen grassroots before. the forum is getting better though. I hadnt been on there for awhile but theres some pretty sick A4's on there now.

That intercooler is cheap. I'd run it if it would fit. Its tight up front though. Didnt you use to have a SRT-4 intercooler Ian? kinda remember you saying something about one. I wouldnt mind test fitting it

might get some money from Audi. I got a letter saying theres a safety recall on the ignition switch. They go bad and your turn signals and stuff stop working. It went bad like a year ago so according to the letter I'll get reimbersed. It was like 40 bucks.
getting closer to the turbo rebuild

I need some headliner sugestions. It started falling down in the back seat. I could either fix it, put something awesome up there or gut the car. I'd wrather not gut the car so does anybody know any cheap headliner materials?

I had a friend that used bandanna material on his 240's trim pieces. It looked great, I think that would be a sweet headliner.

wow i had to go to the second page to retrieve this.

Anyways some stuff happened to the car so I'll update

learned the hard way that i need an oil restrictor. blew the oil seals on viet's turbo.
ordered a restrictor and a shiny gasket for my not so flat t3 flange
hopefully by some chance viet's turbo isnt gone and the restrictor will fix it
      the car is currently NA
      NA sucks
      I like boost
      its kind of an adiction
      I need more of it
      fabbed up a new exhaust
added the dump right after the downpipe
I really want to try it out but I'll have to wait until the car is boosted again
possibly tomarrow i'll test out both turbos with a restrictor installed
also switched the position of the muffler and resonator
the muffler is now in back and doesnt hang low anymore
      no more mustang stylz
Toyo RA-1 tires are on the way
anyone think I can be competitive against 240's and hondas?
this is getting pretty long so i'll stop now
bonus points if you made it this far

well no more NA for me. I found out why my car was blowing tons of smoke out. I put in a SimFab catch can and the hose going to it slowly got kinked and plugged up the crankcase (thats bad). It was an easy fix though.

fabbed this up to make the turn

then modified it to look like this

installed shot

and the catch can

and when it was NA

That is probably the single most awkward looking engine picture I've ever seen. NA, with the turbine housing still there. Looks like a Dr. Seuss car, in a good way.

I finished the headliner. I didnt do the best job in the world on it but it looks fine. I went with a black suede. It looks good in the car. The only problem was that they only had a yard and a half at the fabric store which was just barely too short so it didnt get stuck down good in all areas. I'll post some pics sometime.

I also did the front door cards. Most of you saw it but heres what it looks like

Its gonna be changed though cause the fabric isnt great and its getting fuzzy.

might as well update this

planned mods:
intercooler - probably a front mount
knock sensor circuit for ms - so i can tune it better and get better gas mileage
rear sway - one that is very adjustable

that might be it for the a4. I think after that I'm going to start putting my money(not that i have any) into the mr2

and when the rings go since the car has a few miles on it. well I'll figure that out when it happens

I think I've got that figured out.

Its not definate and will take a long time to complete but here's the vision.
8 cylinders
8 throttle bodies
custom headers
megasquirt
spark control with knock sensing and possibly 4 cylinder shut down
and lots of torque
