Yeah, dont get all excited, yet. This isn't a new car or even a new build, but my original Deuce never got a build up thread, and this isn't really one either. But since so many people have owned/seen/heard about/driven my old AW, I thought it would be interesting for everyone to see what it started as. And i was digging through some old pictures, so enjoy, and if you don't, then that's too damn bad.
How it looked after buying it from some sketchy car dealership on 434 in the Casselberry area. Totally stock, and totally mine(I was very excited).
Yeah it leaked oil, and the engine bay was dirty as hell, but it was all mine, much unlike the cars i had before it.
I don't have any 'mid' pictures, but as you all know, it got a transplant, here is the pictures of the motor from the breaker.
Lou, Vann, just think, at one point in time that car's heart was sitting on a wooden skid covered in dust in the corner of a warehouse.
When i got the engine, this is at Tim O'Donnel's place in winter park, where we did the swap. Take note of Tim's fire belching chop top 4AGTE deuce in the background.(you can see the exhaust out of the gas filler hole)
Swap took 3 days into running condition, and in the early stages of swapping into MR2's, i think that was incredible time. Drove it home from deep in winter park to my apartment on alafaya and rouse rd, right by the university, wrong afm, so i was belching fire out of my tailpipe, no joke, almost set the bumper on fire. After much tweaking/final details, it now looked like this:
Ran it this way for a while, but when my buddy Kris Williams(at the time 16v powered ae86 coupe) wanted to swap to 20 valves, he ended up with a blacktop harness and ecu by mistake, oops. So after working out a trade, my labor for the engine swap, and his ecu/harness. My car now looked like this:
In the little world we lived in of old school Yota's, this was baller status. That amazingly beautiful noise coupled with tough as nails looks, and the balls to back it up in the power section and able to flick it around in the corners:
And that is the way she sat/ran until i traded Dave for the 240z.
There were some amazing times in this car, and for the time i had it in orlando, we seriously had a good solid group of modded toyotas that would constantly be together, great great times. And for the current/past owners of the AW11, this car and i have been through quite the adventures. We shared some quality time one summer on our way to New York to visit my mom and dad, i have quite a few pictures from that trip, including several on the dragon. You learn a lot about a car when you eat/sleep/drink red bull in it for 26 solid hours, while leaking loads of oil at the same time. Toyotas, if it's not leaking or burning oil, then it's probably time to add some.
It's amazing really how much a car can mean to you when you really think about it, cleaning in the garage today i found some old parts from when i did the swap, things that didn't make it back on, and an old headlight cover from the flat black car that just brings a lot of memories back, along with the AFM wiring diagram i had written on the back.
So there you have it folks, my 'build up/life for 3 years'. Enjoy it, now everyone knows where their favorite little 20v mr2 came from.
Well I didnt have the car long but I never forget how happy I was when Dave offered me the trade. I was more shocked than anything. When i got that car the only thing that pissed me off about it was that it was flat black. I was coming from a clean 85 MR that had nice paint and a/c to a, fast dont car that it looks like crap it just moves MR2. I was really more pissed at the fact that you got mad cause a girl called the car cute so that is why you painted it flat black? Not sure if that is true but whatever.
I will also never forget the night cruise's home in that car. Coming over the bridge to my house and going around the turn down shifting and then BBBAAAAAMMMMMM!!!!!! and all you see behind the car was a bright orange flash. Got it painted for free and better flat paint job if i do say so. Not to be mean steve. Then well Vann offered me a trade and well now Vann is the current owner and I think looking to sell it so i am not sure.
Things I leared from that car, dont downshift in front of a cop. Also dont go into a turn hard and think you will save it cause chances are you will not.
I drove it on that very same road when it was Lou's. I have to agree that car was so fun to drive. I think that was one of my funnest drives, that car on that road.
Yeah i think there is going to have to be a "steve's mr2 part two." after pouring over those pictures and thinking about how much fun i had in that car, it's hard for me to get anything else. i would love to have another, and i want another batch of adventures to go with.

Yeah that was a lot of fun. I think it was the last time before i traded it from my hands that i gave it a good flogging.
And i have a few leads on a few aw11's, one being one that is already 20v equipped. I'm having a tought time trying to decide if i want to spend less money and get a 16v and build it, or if i want to spend the extra change to get a prebuilt 20 valve. opinions? i mean, it's the difference of about 1k for a 16v car, and then 2k for a 20 valve car, of course, the 20v also has suspension, is an 87(bigger brakes) and has full standalone...sooooo it might be worth it...
but as far as picking which car im not too sure, as well. i mean, getting the 20v would be the easier route as far as mods go... assuming you have enough money for that one. but the 16v could be better if you didnt have enough money at the moment, and wanted to fully modify it yourself rather than buying it like that...
