you were mentioned somethin about makin a manifold like this where it sits the turbo beside the engine instead of in front of it and i happen to find a pic of some one who did it. it seems like it would be more effecient right in front of the block with the shorter distance between the block and the turbo right? but it's different like this, might at least be worth lookin into maybe:

i actually wanted to make a manifold like that. lovefab use to make a manifold like that for the D series called the sidewinder. The thing is that you'd need an intercooler with the openings on the same side or an air to water setup to make it efficient as possible. I priced one out the materials to be around $150 - $200 and thats without the flanges.

true, couldn't you fab a intercooler to have the endtanks on the same side? seems like it would be pretty cool, for people that have a/c i don't think you'd have to worry about ripping the a/c out. i'm half way tempted to go ahead and do that with mine.

you could but you gotta find someone thats willing to do it and knows how to weld aluminum. you can actually buy intercoolers that are already like that.

It would be cool to put the turbo over there. The spool would probably be a little slower but you'd have some nice high end power with the exhasut going smoothly into the turbo. I'm sure we could fab something up like that. The intercooler would be tough. You could do a sidemount like viet used to have. That would give you relatively short piping. Or if you still have that old intake manifold you could go backwards with the piping. And you could always get a sweet barrel a/w.

jon you still have that vw side mount you took a part? if you do maybe josh can make an enclosure for it to make an a/w setup.

that is pointless unless u have a crx, if u want a good manifold get a miniram, or the bigger ram. but logs are good to!!!!

with a/c

b/c the crx has a full radiator and there is lees space to put a turbo in. with a full size radiator u cant really fit one in.

if u dont have a/c u can get any manifold u want, top mount ram..etc ram isnt as expesive to most ppl use that

mini rams can work with a/c!! so they are awesome

logs do flow terrible, but they work lol. like past 300 hp work, but if u have no a/c there is no reason to have a log

good manifold and not to hard to make

well if i go turbo again i wanna try this out, mounting the turbo beside the engine like in the pic. it would probably be a little easier to run the dump pipe for the exaust i was talkin about right? just cuz it would be a little less pipe and less bends.

you might have to get a slim radiator fan just to add a bit more room. what i'd worry about most is if you are going to need to brace it. Its seem to me that theres going to be a lot of stress right after the merge collector.

yeah, all the stress is my biggest concern. That style manifold has been done a million times, and on some amazing vehicles, so its definitely doable. The problem is OUR build quality, i just see a weld cracking.

i say ****ing do it though, becuase its awesome.

thats why we outsource the welding. or we could get some gas and stainless wire for your welder
