jamin check this out, i've been into the older bikes for a while. if you are looking for a super fun project and a boatload of reliability, check out the old honda CB series. there are several different engine sizes, my personal favorite, the CB550's. one of the first wet sump honda engines. reasons why they are the jam:
SOHC engine is stupid reliable and easy to work on. Water cooled(see above) Kick Start, there is NOTHING cooler than this, i promise. it does have a starter if you are feeling like a pansy though. Huge support, lots of parts, people who know everything about them, lots, just lots. It doesn't have to go 180mph to be cool. There are way too many around for parts bike(trust me this is a very good thing).
That said, any old bike that runs good and looks the business will be fun. I still think of getting an old rat CB and building it out, but just never have the same thought when i'm looking at my bank account. But a big thing, just make sure ahead of time, before you buy any older bike, that there are lots of parts available, it will save for a lot of headaches in the end, and make sure companies still make wearable things, brake pads, carb kits(gaskets/orings), things that will probably be bad or will go bad soon.
i've been toying with the idea, ever since i got the scooter. between TDI-Steve and Lou, there has been alot of talk over the last couple years about getting one. TDI-Steve finally got his last thursday and hasn't stopped riding it, and loving it. and i also need something that is better on fuel, so i can go longer distances and not have to worry about my Penis-Azenis's

Well I made a couple of phone calls today and i think I am gonna be the only trooper here and sell my car and get a bike. Like Lucas keeps telling me just do it now so i dont regret it later on in life. So with that said and a very good point made I think after Fixx I am gonna try to sell the car. I would be saving a good chunk of change.

i am about to put myself into a spot of only have a bike, but i can tell you. i would advise against it. get a bike, ride for a while, and then try to think about the simple things, buying food, bring food to work, anything, it's very difficult, trust me i know. but it's a definate money saver for a few months(what i'm going to do). but then i'll be on the lookout for another ride.
wow speaking of bikes... i just saw a guy bust on his ass on one on the way home from work. the guy was a trooper he was sliding across the ground and got right back up. then he checked out his bike and rode off.
cleaned the carbs and put the stock intake hose on. It runs better but still needs a nice restrictive air filter.
bought some samsonite suitcases to use as saddle bags
still need to pull the front caliper off and clean it up, change the gear oil, look into upgrading the ignition, build the sickest gas tank ever and install some drag bars
So jon and i went to get some helmets to protect our noggins...
...We came back with these:
The deal was we were looking at these HJC helmets that were $189.99 plus tax, and considering the model below them that were $139.99. We looked around some more and on the sale rack were these beauties. They happen to be the $190 model, but they've been marked down to $115 then again to $70. "$70 you say!??! we'll take them".... so now i have a sweet puple flower helmet, and jon has a pink flower helmet.
nothing a little spray paint wont fix....
This is jon's helmet after 2 coats of neon green...hmm not working out well
decided to go back and lay down some white to cover the flowers
nowwww its looking green
i masked off the logo and a sweet stripe
here they are all done...just have to wait for them to dry and reassemble
haha.. nice.. nighthawks are awesome, and ive seen quite a bit chopped up nice. for some cool parts i go to lickscycles.com, and biltwellinc.com F.T.W. Forever two wheels
haha, i was waiting for you to see this and post up.
Your bike is looking amazing man. how's she running now? We'll have to put a ride together soon.
oh btw: you dont still have an old honda tank laying around do you??

She runs good. Ride it as much as I can. Head is a little tuckered out, lets some oil pass the guides, so I have to keep it topped off, but oh well. I'll still ride the balls off of it. And I do.
It's also absurdly loud now, finally got the baffle out of the exhaust, so it's completely open, love it though, real nice bark to it. We'll just have to get something together so you guys can check it out.
And no I don't have an extra Honda tank, I may have a spare Yamaha one. You guys know I have a XS650 as well right? It's still in stock 'goon' mode, and I'll probably end up selling it. As I don't need two right now...
