..This is one of the "car guy rules" apparently, and i think it's true. But being when the time is right, buying the first car you fell in love with, at least sometime in your life. You may be thinking, "yeah, another one of steve's 'what should i buy next because i'm a self proclaimed car whore' threads." Well, i recently found out some relatively disturbing news with the gti, apparently, before i bought it, and before the guy who had it before me had it, it was in a passenger side front end hit. the person who owned it then had it rebuilt, thus the title status, didnt really bother me, car looked/felt solid. checking my oil today, i noticed the lovely passenger side front frame horn is a lovely shade of red under the lovely shade of black. so from a red golf they grafted the passenger side front end from under the strut tower itself, back to the firewall and forward to the bumper.
this is sort of where i draw the line. i dont really have a tendency to drive my cars softly, and i'm sure with coils, and poly bushings, it's going to impose much more stress on this part of the unibody, flat out, it concerns me, not because it was done, but because i dont know how well the work was done. so i'm thinking i might try to unload this girl and start on something i know is solid, or at least semi solid.
which brings me to this, i found a g60 rado(First car i fell in love with) in kissimmee with a detonated g-lader(who knew?) that the guy might be will to trade for the mk2. it will need some work, some de-ricing, but it looks to be pretty solid, going to look at her in person next week. i want to stay within the VW family, but i need to find out how people would feel about a rat 'raddo. it was repainted at one time(the one i'm looking at), and the mouldings and things decided to be red too, so i want to flat the whole thing, and somehow repaint the mouldings/trim their shade of black. but i was looking on vortex, and it seems most of the corrados are gorgeous show pieces that dont look like they are driven, and seriously, that's no fun. end result is the lader would come off, a turbo would occupy the charger's former duty, and it would be getting stuck on speedbumps, rubbing all over the place, and not reflecting any of the sunlight on it's paint. which, is of course, fun. what do you guys think? i've got the bike now, so i can work on something at a much smoother pace, without rushing, so i'm really liking the idea, i can do it how i want it, not how time permits me to.
so what do you guys think? i absolutely love corrados, and i would love to build one to my taste(all business). but i still need to go look at it, so i guess i'll know after that.
get the corrado and turbo it. sounds like a freakin plan to me. i'd love to see a rat raddo around. and i still really wanna see you with a dumped vw of some sort.

yeah i was really actually looking forward to the mk2(parts availabily, already have it) but man that grafting thing freaks me out.

steve
Totally understandable... Get this thing and make us proud!!!!
OK. A little history. When we were in HS there was a pink G60 corrado (The "Crazy Corrado") for sale a the local VW dealership. It would of been Steve's, but it needed a rebuild (rings) and he had to go with something else. The Corrado IS Steve's unicorn, and he needs to get one. I am 110% behind this car.
I like the MKII would be a great project, but the Cabby, though very nice, is not a Steve car. But now that the GTI is glued together, its Turbo-Corrado time.
I hope this works out, I am getting all excited just thinking about it.
Oh, and this is kinda a inside thing, but here it is anyways. (Steve will understand). Be the 930, not the crap box girl car.

I am not a big fan of the G60 motor, but corrados are nice. Is it blue cause if it is then it was the same I was gonna look at when i was selling the bug he wanted to trade me for it.

well there is a red one, and there is like a mint green one. i need to go look at both this week.
well, things don't look good for getting the raddo. the fellow hasn't emailed me back after i mailed him a few times. oh well, we'll see what happens, i might get outta the whole car thing for a while, have to much debt in my name to pay off, and cars are so damn expensive. i'll just end up paying a bazillion dollars for a coraddo 10 years from now.
lately i've been toying with the idea of getting a early model dodge neon and putting the srt4 platform in it. they seem to be very capable cars, power and handling wise. and parts availability for me(where i work), would be nice. and the whole project could be done and overwith for around 5k. and that's including the donor srt4 neon. so we'll see.
i dont know man, a neon? obviously its not my call and i'm in no position to judge (driving a beater "harlequin" civic lol) but a neon seems like stretchin it. then again an old neon rockin an SRT4 motor would be pretty crazy.....and sleeper as hell!

it's all about price for transport right now for me. really a shame i think. but we'll see what happens. might land a swank new job, so maybe good things from there, but the last few months have been way to tight for comfort...
I cant really think of what the old neons look like. Are they the small happy looking ones? I think it would be a fun car with that power in the smaller neon. Probably be good at autocross too with some decent supension mods.
The Old show-room stock Neon cup. Pretty sweet...in a Neon kind of way.
Now just think this same color, lower it a bit, some 15x8 Diamond Races with Spinner hub-caps zipped tied on, some stickies, blacked out intercooler, crank the boost and go hunting.
I loooovvvvee sleepers. A big soft spot in my heart for them. Nothing like a Woody Caravan eating a SS Maro at the track...right?

see you gotta just take a stock set of wheels and widen them. so you can run factory caps. it's the way to go. if anyone sees like a 100$ or free neon, let me know. and yeah, with suspension trickery, they can be nimble as hell.
i'd rock a sleeper neon or that honda. if you got money you could try to get a hb,crx or whatever and a k20 swap. Those things are nasty! i dunno much about ppl doing a all motor ls, but they are pretty nasty turbocharged.
