I really dont mind them that much, but i assume most people do. There is a local one, fairly clean, auto, that i'm looking at. I'm looking more into just a simple no fuss d/d right now,(bike is on the road, and it's nice to relax when driving). and i really like the sort of classic styling of the cabby, and i miss having a convertible. what do you all think? i'm sure the phrase 'tuna basket' will come up, but keep in mind i just want something to cruise in, i'm done with 4 wheel speed for a little while.
Ok well it depends on what generation cabby. MKI and MKI.5 cabbys are ok, MKIII cabbys are SICKKKKKKKKKKKKK and even better when put a VR6 in it and last the MKIII.5 cabbys are ok. What is it?
If you dont know the difference let me show you
MKI cabby---no big bumpers, in a nut shell a rabbit
MKI.5 cabby---big bumpers kinda a rabbit and a golf mixed together
MKIII- a golf convertable, sickest cabby ever!!!!!!!
MKIII.5---- and this is a mkIII with a MKIV front pretty ghey
cabby's are awesome! I definitly want to find an older one for a second car at some point... 2.0 is dependable, convertible is sick, and its a vw! if you like it do it! its a cruiser. just drive it low, and get decent wheels and your done. low and slow cabrio! sick.
i guess it's a 1.5. mk2, close enough, it's a 92. so not the mk3 style. i like them, i'm not really quite sure why not many people do. and yeah, that's the style, drop to the asphalt, good fitment, and just low and slow. cruising is the name of the game.

caBBy, not caDDy. i want a caddy big time. for moving the bike. but like ian said, ones that run with minimal rust are like 3500+$, it's wild. but i like cabriolet's, just effing cool style. and i might throw a little class one hitch on there just to move the bike around town if i need to.
Andrea has been talkin about how she wants get a cabrio, I was showin her some and I think she likes the first gen's better, and I was tellin her she could put some sweet mesh wheels and a vr6 in it and she thought that sounded cool.
seriously, i know it seems strange, but for a little while, i'd love to take some time off of shifting. and i really have no problem with it being auto, it just won't be that type of car, but in general, makes things easier with the traffic here, at least in my opinion. i mean, i dont want people to think that i'm giving up on cars in general, or forgetting the true enjoyment of driving, but when it's pouring outside, and i want to stay dry(i.e. not ride) i just want to hop into something and roll. and i mean hey, how hard is it to swap to 5 spd anyways later if i decide to put something into it? can't imagine it would be that tough.
but as it stands i think i might have given up on the caddy idea. i absolutely can't find anything, found one in tampa with a 16v, but she doesnt run, and he's not up for a trade. found someone looking to trade for an mk2, but he's in washington state. they just don't want to be in the right place at the right time. i might actually have to get a 'truck' instead. why to caddy's have to be so damn cool?

Well i was up at work today(still here actually), and one of my co workers says, ' There is a guy up here looking for you.' it's the guy with the cabby in the photo. amazingly enough, by the time i get up there to greet him, lou is there too, on his way to work. strangest coincidence in a while. so we go check out this guys cabby, wow, all i can say. car is amazing. leather is a little worn, probably could use a re upholster job. but power windows, auto(like i mentioned). paint is clean, very few dents, if any. still smooth and glossy. its really pretty nice. guys drives it everyday from haines city with the a/c on, mo ya. engine bay is clean, like, really clean. what else? i mean, the car is just nice. definately seeing some ultra low coilovers and some(if i can find them) equip 03's for the ride. and i'd have to say that's it. but totally stock unmolested cabby. i'm pretty stoked, looks like we will be doing the deal on wednesday. and i can have my very own tuna basket, maybe then i can pick up some 16 year olds.
Mk3 cabby's are "kinda" cool, but not really feelin the mk2 or mk1
See, this is what i am talking about. People flat out regard them as chick or girl cars. And i guess its something i dont quite understand. I drove a miata for a while, and most people regarded it as a girl car. Cars are some sheet metal with some paint slapped on, some like it, some dont, but i have never signed off a car as something that is a little "flaky", there are some sick early cabbys out there, just have to look, and its the people who dont look at the cabby's with pulled fenders running 15x10s with a VR6T under the hood and coilovers who are left there thinking how they just got romped by a tuna basket. Not saying that's what i'm going to do with this car, but it's always out there, just because it has no lid doesn't make it any less capable than another mk1. I suppose it's just a rant, only because some people relatively close to me, after telling them my plan, are rather displeased with my vehicle selection, it is my car yes, and my choice, but i do like the people around me to at least give me some moral support. And no one seems to understand that this cabby is just flat out worth more than my mk2, "steve you change cars too much", well, i dont ever lose money on them, and i think that's ok, i'm just a car whore. So anyways, like i said, i get the basket wednesday, and this one folks, will be out at the meet thursday, so everyone can pass judgement then.
oh well that was a fast deal. picked up the cabby today, drove it home, get a call from the guy. this can never be good, apparently after driving the gti around for a while, he's noticed some things that i pointed out in my vortex post, but things that would put the car down to fix, clutch, motor mount, etc. so he wants to swap back. can't say i blame him really, his cabby is wicked nice. but oh well, guess i'll just have to finish the mk2....
What?? Why?? I would just say all sales are final. He drove off in HIS new car. He could have broken something on it for all you know... I would tell him to buzz off.
A4seen Racer wrote: that sucks dude. I'd try to work something out with him instead of just swapping back
yeah i'm gonna try. the cabby is the jam, and i'd really like to keep it. he works nights, so i'm going to let him cool off and then we'll see. i have another tag, so i mean, i could wake up tomorrow and make this car totally mine, i just hate being the bad guy.
steve
edit: I just talked to the guy, and he really needs a car for 'right now'. and he's a pretty cool cat, so i'm just going to work with him on this. we figured it out today(me, ian), and it was 11 cars in one year, so i think the forces that be are saying to keep the gti, god knows i've had enough cars already. stuff an ABA in it, and do the same thing i would have done to the cabby. so it's cool.
