Since lou has like a 200 page thread about his car, i figured id make one about mine.
Ok, so in light of recent events the direction im taking the git has changed. Since the "race car" is getting to a point where we should be racing it soon, my car is no longer needed to fill my adrenaline prescription.
so.....near future plans.
Sell my roof basket (just for money, will probably make another) Sell my black emblems (replacing with stock chrome) Sell smoked corners (going with stock orange) Sell MBC ( i dont need it) Sell BBS wheels (if i can, for money) Sell avus wheels (donated track tires to track car) Sell Rear sway (would be overpowering with no front sway)
Buy coilovers
remove front sway
dump it
basically what i'm going for is Low stock-ish GTI. Later i'll build another basket, and do some other fun stuff.
With my problems with smoking and the wierd rev-down problem, the car will be much happier this way.
What tires can you get in 14" wide? I wasn't aware tires were measured in inches... Thought it was 285/40 and such. I must not know a thing about anything.
no way, i gotta go for safety. with the wider wheels up front, it would have a tendancy to oversteer and thats not safe. therefore, the wider wheels are going in the back.
^Um... But your car, being FWD is naturally going to understeer. Wouldn't doing that make it more nutural?
Like on GT3. To get all the FWD cars to handle better, I would always put the **** tires in the rear, so I could get the back end out under trail-breaking. And as we know, GT3 is 'real' life
And life revolves around the traction circle.

i made an excel spreadsheet that calculates how much a wheel will tuck or poke on the front or rear of a golf 4. Here's the data on my stock wheel, CLK wheels, and Brock B1s.
the mercedes wheels will poke a little, but its fairly conservative. a little tire stretching is going to be necessary to achieve the right look.
ok, i got my coilovers on. bilstein PSS9. good news is that they are really freakin nice, fully adjustable and really stiff. bad news is that they dont go low. i have the helper springs out and the perches all the way down and i still have like a 1 finger gap.
plan is to buy my new wheels and see how it looks. later if i dont like it i can sell these and get some koni's or fk's.
other good news is that mjm has these on sale right now for $1699.99 shipped. so i should be able to get a good bit of money out of em.
oh i totally forgot, the kid that sold me the coils threw in a set for SPC camber plates (~$200 value) and they were brand new in the box. now i have ~1.5deg negative camber up front
check this out, our friend Ryan has a rig that magnets to the bottom of the car and has a big long pole that extends out the side. here's a shot we got last night with his new setup.
oh and this is w/ the coils on, but its too dark to really see. oh and the tint's off
