TURBO!

This guy kept asking me if I wanted to trade him anything for my JDM-HAWTNESS side windows, and I kept saying no. I wanted $150 for them, but then he started telling me about these brand new ball-bearing turbos he had laying around. Caterpillar Marine "big suckers" and he wasn't kidding. So the coolness factor made me trade with him, one brand-new turbo. I want to get some information so I know what to post on E-bay when I try to sell them, but I cannot find any information about them...but I am going to call Caterpillar. I do know it is marine turbo and has liquid cooled turbine housing, pretty sweet, and weights 46lbs.

Yeah, a used smaller cat-turbo just went for $825 on ebay, but I am going to see if I can find other places to sell it also. But I still do not know what engine it belongs to.

His uncle builds offshore race boats. Was building this boat that had dual 502ci twin turbo motors, and the guy only paid for some of the parts then bailed. They were sitting in the shop when the guy I got them from found them and his uncle gave him all four. He said that his uncle paid 2300 for each one. He sold two to a guy that changed the turbine houseing and put them on a Z28.

Funny thing was when I went to Publix on the way home to weight it, I walked past some guy on his cell phone and his jaw dropped when he saw me carrying it. Nothing like getting out of $1500 car with a $2300 part in my hand.

I am half tempted to take it apart to get a better look at the turbine houseing and to see just how much it weights.

Info

So I got some info on the beast. Took about 6 phone calls around, but was able to dig this up...

Came of the 420 bhp 3126 7.2L I-6 Caterpillar Marine motor.
Has a T-72 compressor wheel rated at:
75LB/Min, 1085 cfm @ 2PR
88LB/Min, 1274 cfm.
50psi max boost limited by compressor wheel rpm.

It will except an TD07 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries housing.

Reman price: $1452.37, core charge: $1000.

Oh and Steve's cat stuck her head inside the compressor exducer.

No by the time I ran upstairs for my camera, she already found something else to do. I think I am going to stage it some how.

Sold! To the man in the red hat for $700.

Already got the payment, wasnt even paying attention (forgot about it) to the auction and my email bug told me that I got an instant payment. Not bad for trying to sell parts for $150.

I think I am going to stick with the SE-R. Oh and that pic you sent me, I saw that on the GRM forum too. That car is also on the SR20 forum and it weighs 1950 with the cage.

But I am still up in the air. I am trying to find a beat up MR2 to sink my money into and drive the SE-R around.

I dont know if I want to go the MR2t route. They are uber expensive and I really like the NA's. They are super fun to drive and they arent a million dollars.

That is the plan. I have been trying to think how I would make a flange and what not. I think I would use a 1000cc motorcycle ITB's because they are CHEAP and most of them use pipe clamps to fit onto the runners. SO just got to figure out a way to get it onto the head. But its hard to think about when I don't have the car nor the motor.
