Turbo and manifold

I finally saved up enough for a big snail but I still havent decided which turbo to go with. I'd really like to have the power of a t3/t4 but consideing that I'm not a drag racer and lag is not your friend on the autocross course it might not be the best. The 16g and super 60 are pretty similiar in terms of compressor efficiency but I dont know how the turbine sides will affect it.

I'm also buying a SimFab manifold. I decided that its going to be pulse tuned. I dont know a whole lot about it but my understanding is that at a certain rpm where you want peak power, (for example where the compressor is at its maximum effieciency) then the voulme in each runner will equal the volume coming out of an individual cylinder at that rpm. So I'd have to find the volumetric effieciency at whatever rpm, calculate the volume and make the runners the right length to make that volume. Collector length is something I'm not real sure about. I'm pretty sure it will affect what rpm max power will be but I dont understand why. So any thoughts?

I vote the super 60 just cuz it was really nice on my car. It pulled all the way to redline and it felt like it could go for more. With your extra .2 litres you could probably spool it up a little faster. Plus you'll have a t3 flange on your manifold so you can upgrade to a t3/t4 if need be. If you can find a super 60 CHRA I do still have the housings from my old one you can have and hopefully it'll save you a little money.

Whats the design for the manifold going to look like? have you priced out all thise stuff yet?

thing is jon will be pushing much more boost than you, so the s60 will be struggling at the top end i think. from what i've seen stock internals 1.8bT guys running, the s60 would be out of its comfortable effeciency range at fun size boost.

I also have t3t4 50trim housings if you could finda a chra for it.

on an auto-x course i really dont see it being laggy. you'll be keeping the rpms up for the most part and if you keep in mind that turbo can create a small amount of boost at low rpm, it will only SEEM laggy becuase it will be making a ton at a high rpm.

whats better your tubo that makes 7psi at 2100 rpm and 7 at 5000rpm....or a t3t4 that will make 5 at 2100rpm and 22 at 5000?

i think you should go with the super60 just cuz it sounds cool to say you've got a super60.

Jon how much power are you shooting for? I know you should have the number/plots for the compressor maps, so post them up. oh and which 16g are you looking at?

it has some good info, but i'm sure maximum boost already covers some of this if not all of it. its a nice read either way.

on the turbo choice i still think you should get something with good spool up for the autox. its more ideal for exiting corners. too bad you can't get the gt28rs lol.
When i layed the compressor maps on top of each other the gt28rs was right in between the super 60 and t3/t4 50trim. the 16g with the tdo6 housing was very similar to the super 60 like jon said before.

maybe you should look into an 18g or 20g.

i dont know if that super 60 is gonna hold much more that 18-20 pounds at higher rpms, it really depends on ur goals.

u r upgrading manifolds so it should spool faster than other people with the same turbo

i think a T3/TO4E 54trim .63 A/R hot, somethink a little bigger, will satisfy your hp numbers and should spool descently. i know in a civic(1.6 siglecam) u can hit full boost (14-28psi) by 5000rpms
