as some of you may or may not know, i recently sold an ae86 coupe, and now i'm looking for another daily driver/project. i need to focus more on other things, but i still want something fun to drive. i have tried to decide on something, but haven't come up with a great solution yet. possible vehicles are as follows:
early(90-97) miata MK2 GTI MK3 Golf(so i've heard slow, but eh, whatever) 'another' aw11 FX16 corolla...just like above, but flipped around, if you dont know what it is. EG civic hatchback B13 se-r S13(had one before, didn't like it, so i'm reluctant to even think of it, but they are still super cheap and still RWD.)
the big complex i'm having is FWD vs. RWD, i've never put time/effort into a FWD car and i dont know if i would enjoy it. i drive an 06 GTI constantly (g/f's) and i like it, so i'm feeling good about the VW's. i'm looking to get something with decent handling characteristics, decent aftermarket support, and i'd like to be able to put the windows up, enjoy the a/c and a pretty good stereo, oh and good gas mileage would be great. so i dont know, i'm very undecided. i was pretty set on an early GTI, but then upon thinking, i realize i know squat about them, which might be a bit of a bummer. but it might be nice to try something totally new. any thoughts?
you've had your share of small japanese rwd cars. i say mix it up and get a mk2 or mk3 vw. dont act like you dont have a plethora of vw knowlege at your disposal. between me, lou, joel, david, lucas, etc, etc, etc you can find out anything you need to know about vws.
not to mention joel prcatically has a mk2 junkyard.
yah that's really true, back in the day when i first got my lisense i so badly wanted a mk2 jetta. but i think a GTI would suit me better now. who knows, depends what i can find that doesn't have holes in the floor i suppose...
Hey why dont you help a brother out, I dont want to sell it but hey i can keep it in the group. You should come by my house and check it out. I can work out a deal.
510, man i wish i had the money to do one right. i had an old Z too.

pictures of the old 510 and the old Z, i sincerely miss the Z, but i got a load of money for it and to build it into what i wanted would be far to expensive, but one hell of a gorgeous car. i might just come check out the jetta lou. i'll give you a call sometime this weekend.
OK I have owned many MKII's carb'd, cis, digi. That jetta is CIS and all i have to say is stay away. You have no ways to mod the fuel system or ecu. Later model MKII's are digi witch are just like hondas and if you want a MKII that is what you need to look for. Also I am really confused on why that Jetta is 5 lug and still has a 16V. To be honest i would only pay no more than 1500 for that jetta. I am not sure what is done to it but just by watching the first like 10sec of the the walk around and seeing the dent in the fender and the rusted lower part of the grill that is all i would pay. How much is he asking for that car?
Also if i were you take my advice and i am not saying this cause i am selling my jetta cause i dont want to sell but get a MKIII way more reliable. Better interior and just all around nicer VW. If you dont have alot of money to spend and you want to get a MKIII dont doubt the 2.0. I always said man i want a MKIII VR6 and well now that I have a MKIII and its a 2.0 I have no regrets on not getting a VR6. If you read all the **** those guys go through, all i have to say is F U C K that. If you want a VR6 just for sound well I would just come out on saturday night and listen to the few VR6's drive away. That is what i do and i am happy cause i know that no matter what my 2.0 isnt gonna give dumb problems like the outer waterpump taking a **** and haveing to pretty much drop the motor to get it out. But that is enough from me.
dude, your 510 was sick. too bad you couldnt finish it.
heh, yah it was cool, the carbs were a huge PITA. only because i didn't know the specs on the motor, cam/piston etc. and it wasn't stock, so i had no baseline. oh and the thing was like purple+rust :) A LOT of rust, but, all in all, a really hard car to get rid of, i miss the old datsuns every once in a while.

yah i just dunno if i can afford your jetta though..i like the overal fit/finish of the mkIII's better, just price wise the mkII's are obviously cheaper. and yah i know that injection system is the pits, someone i work with has a golf with a 16v..and bleh..
