i actually saw this circle track show this morning and they talked about cutting springs to raise the rate. it makes sense, if you take length out of the spring you'll raise the rate. i guess its pretty common to cut springs in the circle track cars. they said its fine to do but make sure you dont nick a coil and its better not to use a torch.

if you guys wanna figure out the rates after cutting them or whatever you can this compression spring rate calculator.

calculator

the link is to the variables. then there is a link on that page that goes to the calculator.

i asked the guy with the red S/C that is always up at the autox in deland what rates he is using.

he said he uses 250lb front and 350lb rear

remember how close his fenders are to the tires? he says he has some pretty serious sways that help keep him from rubbing

interesing bit on the ride height and spring rates on a CSP car

I run the weld-on GC coilover setup on my '86 MR2, and initially lowered my car almost 2" in the rear and 1-3/4" in the front (using the height measuring method in the BGB). I ran this setup for almost a year, using my car primarily for SCCA CSP autocrossing and occasional street driving. I run 450# rear springs and 300# front springs, Koni struts front & Illumina struts rear, with GC camber/caster plates in front and T3 camber plates in rear. I also use Kumho V710 215-50-13 for autocrossing. Stock sways are used front and rear, with poly bushings throughout.

interesting

i think we should go with some pretty stiff springs since we're not gonna have the budget for swaybars unless we can use the mustang one. we could even go a little stuff than the second guy and do a 500 rear and 400 front

hey, i was thinking if we get the money from Vann, sell the steelies and my old track wheels, we should just go ahead and order the really cheap ones from ebay.  we'd still have ****ty shocks, but the rates would be a little higher and we'd be able to set the ride height.  we can always buy other springs later.

oh and if the rates arent listed, im sure we could calculate it if you bring up some weights from your weight set jon.

They'd be nice to have for the track day.

I'm in for that but do you think we'll have enough money left over for misc stuff to finish the car? Like those A/N adapter fittings and fuel hose?

Yea spring rates would be easy to calculate
