Modern MR2 pretty much not really.


Hey guys watch this video and listen to the lotus. 4 sec in to the video listen and you can hear the VVTi cross over. so watch the video and 4 sec in you will hear it. buy the way it is a lotus at a auto cross.

does vvti cross over like vtec does? i always thought it was more gradual. but sounds cool whatever it does

actually you're kinda both right. 


 


this is regarding the vvtli, which is what the elise has (variable valve timing with lift integration)


 


VVTL-i is composed of two systems:

VVT-i, which acts as a continuously variable cam gear on the intake cam. So, intake cam timing is constantly being adjusted as the engine runs. Many/most new cars have similar systems, some acting on both cams.

... and VVL, which for almost all intents and purposes is identical to good old DOHC VTEC. There are extra lobes on both the intake and exhaust cams, which sophisticated rocker arms switch to high-rpm.

Just to be clear, there is no actual extra camshaft, just extra lobes. But slang commonly refers to them the big and little cams. :)

TVIS stands for Toyota Variable Induction System. What it basically is
is a second set of intake runners that are closed at lower rpm, promoting
torque, and then opened at higher rpm, alowing more airflow for high rpm
horsepower.
