me and viet started on putting my new clutch in and it was actually going pretty smooth untill i broke the slave cylinder and found a stripped bolt holding the clutch on. i rented a tranny jack which made dropping the tranny way easier than it would of been with a floor jack. i got the stripped bolts out and pulled the clutch off and saw that stupid dual mass flywheel. i never realized how worthless those things are. it lets the friction surface rotate about an 1/8th turn from the crank. thats gotta slow the revs down, plus it weighs 26lbs.
heres some pictures
i still dont know what im going to do about the slave cylinder or flywheel. probably will just end up getting the flywheel resurfaced
yeah that really sucked that the slave cylinder broke. i guess we got jinxed whn we said eerything was going good. you look into how much a new slave cylinder costs? i saw online for $40 so it'll probably be a bit more from audi.
when i do clutches, i use a scotch-brite pad, the ones that screw on, made for die-grinders and the like. well i use my die-grinder with that pad and just clean it up!

junk that flywheel man. go single mass, no need for two. how did everything look, hard to tell much from the pics. when do you think you'll have it all back together?
i bid on this flywheel http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8025658834 what do you guys think a used flywheel is worth? so far im thinking 80 is about as high as ill go. but if i do get this ill end up with an unsprung hub, a lightweight flywheel and a grippy clutch so it might be a little harder to drive
it might be harder for you to drive, but you'll get use to it. So I wouldn't worry about that to much. I think the spec flywheel would be a great upgrade after seeing how giant your stock one is.

shoulda taken that advice to begin with. i went to car quest and the guy told me that he couldnt resurface my flywheel cause when the machine puts pressure on the face it moves and wont cut straight. he told me to just sand it down and get all the glaze off and it should be fine
