Whats your next mod?

we're getting kinda slow so might as well keep track of everyone's plans

my next big thing is going to be some kind of engine management. probably will do some smaller stuff before then like throw a resonator and a tip on

next as in like next week is the TT fender liner mod. basically drill holes or cut slits in the fender liner behind the intercooler to promote airflow.

over the summer i want to do a few things.

vag-com
3 inch turbo-back
steel sharge piping
dare i say "chip"? haha

Well i'm going to get some pistons and rods within a month or two. I'm going to shoot for some rods this week and pistons within a month or less. Then i'd have to find a block and crank to use. oh and i'm also going to shoot for a front mount or a pwr a/w intercooler and some new charge pipes. i might rebuild the messed up head i have also, but thats not going to be for a while.

now I have to find some good prices for some pistons and rods. anyone suggest any companies? can anyone hook me up?

lol. i dont know. I can't see why i should get a a/w over a front mount. plus a front mount is 1/2 the price of a a/w setup. If i did go a/w i'd probably go with a pwr. but i'd like to go with that CNC'd one using the laminova cores but thats alot of money. the johnnyracecar intercoolers have gone way up in price and i dont know if i really wanna go with those now. I thinking i might go with SSautocrap bar and plate intercooler on ebay. They seem nice, but then again look at their manifolds.

help me decide on whether i should go a/w or a/a.

a/a are played. thats like getting a honda.....oops, well at least you dont have a civic....kinda. hehe, i dont care, get what you want. do a cost benefit analysis and see what you come up with. see if you can find some intake temp logs. VTEC wooo wooo!!!!!!!

Vtec!!!!!.................. kaboom!

I just deposited my paycheck and found out i had more money then i thought i had. But I rather use what i was planning to use. So i've decided to get a front mount, but which one?

SSautocrap Intercooler

Another Ebay intercooler

Fin & Tube design still ebay stuff

Looks like a johnny racercar one not sure though

honestly they all look pretty comparable. if you got any one over the other..i dunno if you'd notice a diff between them. the mishimoto loooks a little bigger, but thats abt it. i saw watch the classifieds on honda-tech or whatever for a little while and see what comes up in there. or just get which ever one you can get cheaper on ebay

dude a front mount is not going to keep your rods from breaking again its just going to make more power and put more stress on your (possibly very old) rods.  and if you get rods yo can crank the boost back up and start making some good power again

is there a known good, reliably built, w/good flow rate, basic intercooler? i know volvo intercoolers are popular for their price, availability. they are made of a durable plastic and are extremely light (although i've never seen a really heavy intercooler).

as for my mods. i'm gonna get some bigger injectors. looking to push 140hp, and 250+ ft/lbs asap!

nice tq #! I'd like to have that much tq. anyways i've changed my plans. considering that i'm probably going to get an intercooler for helping out on joe's 240. So i've moved on to pistons and rods. I'm goign to order rods probably tomorrow afternoon and maybe get the pistons the next paycheck. I'm going to order some eagle rods for 300 shipped. man i can't wait till i get them!!

hmm i'd still have to egt a 3bar map sensor but after that and a good tune it should be capible of making over 300+ hp.

sweet, can i have your gti IC? or is it already claimed?

be nice to see your car actually TUNED with some internals. you should really get some dyno/wideband time and see whats really going on in that fish tank of yours once you get things up and running full force again.

i wanna see that torque lucas!

in due time! as right now my most recent mod was done today (wednesday) working at Mini Cooper has it's perks. got a $60 shift knob for free and have already installed it. i like it alot and its shorter than the stock one giving me a little bit of a shorter throw, nothing brag about, just got bored at work.

well since nice forged pistons cost about $450 a set and I'm broke I opt to get a cheaper alternative. Grand vitara pistons for $123. They've been tested and are a great fit into the d16. It lowers the compression down to 8.5 though, but if I were to get a d16y8 headgasket I could raise it to 8.7. I only plan to run about 18-20 psi. I really don't think anything beyond that is very good for a street car and a lazy ass college student like me. I think i'm going to orderer them this friday so they will probably be here next week.

Other things on my list are:

  • 3 bar map sensor
  • rod bearings
  • main bearings
  • probably a whole gasket set
  • block
  • crank
  • head studs
  • dyno tune

so you can run suzuki pistons? and they are actually good? thats pretty amazing too. thats some pretty low compression man. so i guess you are going to figure out how to tune your ecu now huh, cuz your going to be way off now. sounds sick though, 18-20 psi will be nuts, you'll have passed me up, well i should be spiking that.

should be nice indeed. the spool up should be fun with the low compression. you'll probably spin the tires all the way through 2nd

so what kind of times are you looking for with a built block?

yeah 12's ...with slicks and some better driving skills. But some ppl are already running 12's with slicks on a similar setup to mine. except they have slicks, front mount, and 10psi of boost. oh and they can probably drive better then me.

cool! that front mount looks badass. chips? lame. so how are you going to get all that money?

im going the thrifty way so it shouldnt be crazy

chip ~300-500 (500 being completely loaded, multiple programs)
IC ~200 shipped like the ones you were looking at (i like the 20x12x3 ones)
charge pipes and exhaust are all custom, so i just gotta buy bends, flex section, flange, and a muffler which is the most expensive part @ like 150ish

i'll be paying for this with whatever ****ty job i get for the summer

i was thinking about maybe sending the old one off to GReddy, since its a defect they could fix or send me a new one, then i'd have one for each of you.

the threads got messed up on the BOV where the adjustable pin goes.

........and yeah, jon did call it first
