The Miata

Thought I'd give a little update on what I've been doing with the Miata I bought from Lou.

+Tranny went, bent shift fork, so it has a new '99 5sp
+o2 went, got a PLX WBo2
+new A/C compressor, still need to get wiring harness and charge it
+ordered a MS with all the fixins
  -open element IAT
  -IAC kit
  -boost control
+short nose fix hopefully
  -new crank gear
  -new woodruff key
  -new bolt

I think the diff is starting to go too.  Lou, u still got someone with a RX7 rear or whatever it was?

TODO:
+leather seats and some headrest speakers.  I'm going to put a heating/cooling system in them as well cuz I'm a freak of nature and my back is always sweating in the car
+brace kit
+better suspension, preferably electronically controlled if I can find a good price
+some kind of computer or digital dash...I'm actually thinking of producing my own color display since the LCDash is only monochrome
+low profile headlight, the stock ones are ugly as sin
+signal light intakes

So did you get it towed home from the beach that day?

Sounds like some nice plans for it.

Yea, there wasn't much else I could do.  I said screw it and still hung out at the beach, then called AAA and had a flatbed come pick me up.  It's interesting having to sit in a car while it's being pulled onto a flatbed.

Awesome, let me know how much it's gonna cost.  You know anyone who's done the swap?  I'm reading about it and it sounds like quite a few mods are needed to get it in. (shorten driveshaft, modify PPF, modify halfshafts for miata hubs)

I was tempted to get an rx7 rear end when I owned the car, but the need to have a car over took the price of higher performance parts. That rear end didn't last long at all. I'll do some research to see if I've got a warranty on it, if so, I may be able to help you in that respect. I knew when I put it in, that the days of crazy spirited driving were over, I put it in to pass time till I could save up and get some crazy lsd.

So, a little update. Megasquirt is in and functioning quite well with my PLX WBO2. I took my FPR out and later realized I need bigger injectors to keep the 10PSI boost, so I'm looking for some 460cc RX-7 injectors or higher. I found some, but the guy is asking a bit much compared to what I've been told they should cost. $120 didn't sound bad to me, but from what others have been saying, it is.

I have my EBC solenoid in the mail

I got that TII diff and axles from Lou's friend, so now I'm looking for someone to hack it up and put it in. If anyone has recommendations for shops, let me know. So far I'm looking at Mazworx and some guy named Raul.

So, first thing is to get injectors in, then tune the car so it runs well enough, change to EBC, tune, install diff, then dyno tune.

I still have a couple little things to do as well like install an IAT in the IC piping and get a variable TPS.

That is all for now

can you use dsm injectors? you can get the turbo 450cc injectors pretty cheap. usually for $50-$100.

I got some RX-7 460cc injectors for $50 shipped. I'm gonna pump some fuel through them and see how they spray. The guy said they only have 5k miles on them since they were rebuilt, so I shouldn't need to send them out for cleaning. They're plug and play, so we'll see how well they work when I get back in 3wks or so.

Still looking for someone to do my driveshaft and axle work. No one seems to want to return my calls...

Got my EBC solenoid today, so I'll be installing that and seeing how well it works. I'm gonna make sure I do a fuel and spark cut if it overboosts so I don't kill anything. I'll be pretty limited with the 205cc injectors and no FPR. I'm not sure what my WG is set for. If Louis knows, it'd help me out. I have a feeling it's like 7psi, so that might be too much for the 205cc w/ no FPR.

More updates...

Injectors don't seem to actually be 460cc, but 330cc. They're reddish brown tops and I didn't have to adjust my req_fuel as much as if they were actually 460cc. They're fine for the amount of fuel I need though.

I think my timing is off. Not sure if retard was done to it to work with the OEM ECU. I need to check it, but I have no mark on my crank pulley, requiring me to take it off to see the sprocket, so I haven't done it yet.

EBC is great. Had some issues originally, but got it fixed and working.

Gave up on the RX-7 rear and bought a Torsen, axles and driveshaft. It makes me happy. I've always had AWD cars, so the LSD feels much safer and works really well in the turns.

Bought new tires - Fuzion ZRi.

Bought a automatic throttle body for the vTPS and to replace my assumed to be broken IAC valve. I think I fried it when I arc-ed my starter to the block. Now I know why they tell you to unplug the battery before working on anything.

Got a helmet.

Got a Hard Dog M1 bar yesterday. It's in, but still need to bolt most of it down.

TODO before hitting the track:

Find out why my brakes sound like **** and fix them.
Finish installing roll bar
Fix timing if necessary
Replace all fluids
Find out where all my oil is going...I know some is coming from the valve cover
Put in a seat that'll keep my tiny ass still
Replace MAF with straight pipe
Steady state dyno tune
Get some steel-braided brake lines
Get a nice rearview mirror...can't see as much with that stupid bar in the way
Probably other stuff I'm forgetting about

I randomly decided to check this forum again, so here's an update...

A LOT is about to go into the car. She's hurting a bit right now, so she's in the garage waiting.

This is the thread I've been updating: http://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t40342/

Motor will have new everything except maybe valve guides, Supertech +1mm valves, Supertech single springs with titanium seats, 0.040" Wiseco 9:1 pistons, rings, M-tuned rods, full boundary engineering oil pump, FM flywheel and ACT extreme clutch/pp, M-tuned coolant re-route and front water neck removed, if it works out the way I hope it'll have a 36-1 crank trigger wheel with VR sensor that all looks stock, and Integral cams later on.

Water injection will be individual runner and probably 1GPH nozzles in each, but may go down to .75GPH depending on how others do with their setups. It will be controlled by the DO at first and possibly MS2 later. I'm planning on using the washer reservoir to hold the water/meth for street and have a second tank refilling that something like what Joe Perez did, but a little different. That way I can remove the tank when just cruising around if I need the storage.

The MS2 has PWM idle with upconverter board, peak and hold injection for Evo8 550cc injectors, table switching connected to a switch in the cabin and to the float switch in the washer reservoir for failsafe (don't want to use water all the time on street, I can deal with less power and flip the switch when I want to piss someone off that their car is slow). It has baro correction incase I ever want to use it, EBC, fan control, and knocksensems.

Some other stuff includes CXRacing radiator with slim fans and shroud, ss brake lines, flush HID headlights with carbon fiber buckets, Momo Start seats with Joe O's brackets that are awesome, depowered (the FM way) steering rack, urethane bushings, Bridgestone RE-11s, and a bunch of other stuff I'll probably get later on.
