Yeah so I decended to fix my over heating problem yesterday morning. The problem was that the car would randomly overheat, but you could turn the heater on and bring the temps back down. So I'm on the way to honda to get a thermastat and a radiator cap to see if it would fix the problem. on the way home from honda the car start to over heat agian. No biggie i'll just turn the heater on. I cranked the heater up and nothing happen. I look at the temp gauge just keep going up. the needle keeps rising and hits the top line of the gauge. It doesn't stop and keeps going for the H and it hits it and goes straight past it. I look in the review and saw smoke pouring out from the exhaust. So there goes the HG, but lucky i was down the street from my house.
So I made a few calls and got a hold of a head gasket and a jon hiers with a torque wrench. oh but before that I tried swapping out the thermostat abd broke a bolt in the thermostat housing. that was pretty gay. So i tried to see if one bolt would hold it tight enough...oh boy was a wrong. coolant went all over the place. <lol i'm tired of telling the story> yeah so later that night after i went to class with jon for some reason. we started to work on the car. after like a goot 5-7 hours of swapping out the headgasket, putting head studs in, stripping the threads out of one of the stud holes on the block, and messing with timing the car never worked again. So yeah currently the sol is dead.
That is a big time suck. I hate it when problems snowball like that. I would have to say though, definitely sounded like you had air in your coolant system. My MR2 used to do that with it's 16v. It was overly hard to bleed though.
So now the car won't start? Details, we can at least TRY and help...
i'm getting fuel and spark but its not working. The timing is probably off. I don't have the belt cover that has the alignment thing for the crankshaft pulley. We jon and I built the motor we just put the number 1 piston at tdc and put the head at tdc. we kind of forgot we did that when we put everything back together. so jon is seeing if jason has a timing belt cover that I can borrow while jon is up in orlando today.
I don't know what to do about he threads for the head studs. I'm afraid that that one isn't going to hold too well and it'll probably end up as another HG swap.
maybe its time for a k20 and a 6 speed tranny with a lsd????? lol only if i had money for it.
Man I dunno about that head stud...that's a scary ordeal. My opinion? If the engine is worth it to you to keep, then explore options of putting larger head studs in it, large as in diameter. That way you can drill out the current holes and re-tap. Have a machine shop do this. That is...if the engine is worth keeping. But has been stated, might just be easier to swap her out...ya know?
Did you find out how much that kit is? Its made for that exact purpose so I'm pretty sure it'll work. They even have a sweet vid to show you how to do it. Or you could just run it up to the machine shop.
i can get a hold of another block for $100 this weekend, but if that time sert thread repair kit is a decent price i would go with that route. it'll save some time and head aches.
well my block is now at carquest they'll probably done putting the helicoil in it monday afternoon. so hopefully my car will be running again sometime next week.
well i hate to contradict on what u guys have to say about helicoils. they suck dick!!! that thing could only take 20ft/lbs before it got messed up. I wish I had something better to say, but damn did i felt like i got ****ed hardcore.
well carquest definitely stepped up on the helicoil thing. I think they might have went with a time or big cert. not sure but it holds 60ft/lbs. But the car still isn't running. Its not getting spark. I'm thinking it might have to do with the dizzy. jon thinks we might have missed a ground or something. might have to go over it again this weekend or sometime next week.
after alot of bs the car runs again, but theres a small oil leak where the new oil lines are. i'm going to try to fix that later today or friday morning. i'm just happy to have my car running again!
