holy crap I hate you, but congrats on a great car man. Enjoy that for all it's worth, which is a lot in my mind. you have to give me a ride sometime though.
Well I've been going through the car and getting everything running right but I'm still having trouble with it running really rich. Really rich. Never goes above 11:1 on the wideband. That doesnt make the gas mileage so good. It also doesnt make as much power. So I decided that before I spend alot of time figuring out the problem I'm just gonna go megasquirt. I'm also going to clean up the engine bay as much as possible. Rotary engine bays can be so clean. So here's what I'm gonna do
Remove all emissions junk, everything pertaining to the A/C system, belt driven fan, and as much of the wiring and brackets as possible. Then build a new harness with just the needed stuff like injectors, temp sensors, TPS, VDI (thats VTEC in the rotary world) and try to hide the whole harness.
I'm going to start out conservative on the boost like 10lbs because I'm not real sure what the rotaries can handle. Then front mount and possibly an exhaust. Then finally I can get to suspension and wheels and make it a very fast auto-x car. Thats the goal.
Well I still live at home and my roomates (pronounced parents) said no engine swaps. Thats the main reason I didnt keep the audi. I wanted to put the 40v in or do a vr6 but couldnt.
I might be doing this soon to the Rado. Not that Digifant isn't awesome or anything
What board are you running now Jon? I think I might just start with something simple and run just the fueling off a 2.2 board. Maybe with thought later to go full on...
I'm using the V3 board that was running the audi. I had to change a few things to work with the mazda but it was pretty simple.
You should just go for the v3 board if you are thinking about doing spark later. It already has a VR circuit built in so you just have to switch 2 jumpers when you switch to spark. You can do it with the 2.2 too but you have to get a daughter card or build the circuit.
I turned the boost up to 8psi. Thats stock boost but it was at 4 when I got it. Feels much better now. I almost want to just leave it as it is cause it runs good and is fun. However, I doubt that is going to happen. I plan on at least front mount, 3in exhaust with cut out out one side of the dual exhaust, and more boost. Then on to suspension. Cheap is my goal. Hopefully I can find some blown konis for cheap and get then rebuilt and revalved. Then either some used GCs or possibly adapt the cheap ebay coil overs and springs from the junkyard that happen to be the right spring rate or can be made into the right spring rate by cutting. I also am debating on wheels. I can still get Aero wheels for 30 bucks a wheel so I might get 2 sets and use 1 set on the street and 1 set for race tires. Any sugestions for tires? So thats whats going on with my car and heres a picture
