Honestly, I've been thinking about this lately. I just don't have the inkling to go fast anymore, call me old, or whatever, dunno what it is. But I feel the need to restore/drive an older car. I probably blame my pops, as he has a 64 T Bird out in CO, and I get my old car bug from him. Spent some time with him when I was out there, and we are very similar in our appreciation for vintage sheet metal, whether it be two or four wheels. So I get home, and have been spending some time ogling old Bugs, Buses, Impalas, any anything else built more than ten years before I was born.
I can also partially blame the bike, it's my main transport, and as I had mentioned before, I can now 'tinker' with a car, at my own pace, and do it right. But as most old muscle is stupid expensive in non-rusted out condition, I have been looking hard at the Bugs, a bus would be cool, while unique, just don't think it's my thing.
So someone convince me not to restore an old bug. Quick.
i'll be honest too, those cars had me going too, vann and lou had the aircooled vw, lou just had the old mini, and they had to work on those cars alot. i mean there is a reason that they don't build those cars anymore ya know? i think that your search might not be a easy as you would think. your dad relates to those cars because that is what he knew growing up. its ok to show apperication, but we have our own era of vehicles to call our own. we need to find our own cruiseres, muscle cars and race cars instead of living someone else's memorys.

I've thought about the old Brits, but talk about something that's hard to find that doesn't show daylight through the floors...but they are undeniable cool. I spent a good summer working on a TR6, and it's just such a cool car.
But about the whole vintage era thing. I've had a few old cars in the past if you guys recall. And's it not about living in someone elses memory, it's about saving automotive history. It scares me to think what the auto industry is going to be like in ten years, but if I can jump into a car that was built in a time where people wanted to actually drive, as apposed to talk on the phone, watch movies, or whatever, it gives me a good feeling. I appreciate vintage metal because of my dad, because that IS what I grew up with. That's what we did, car shows around NY, and his Dart, and the Impala, oddly enough, he also had a Volvo 244DL. But I like the cars because of what I think about them, not just because he does.
But Jon's got it right, the Bug can't tow a motorcycle trailer, sorry, even thought it may seem feasible, I am almost 100% sure the brakes/chassis aren't even close to being able to handle it. But you know what, I've got some people coming to look at the bike this week, and Orlando scares the hell out of me, anybody who's ridden on these streets can attest to it, and I wouldn't mind finishing my '72 Cafe, getting off the street for a bit. And maybe a '71 Super can join the ranks. Or maybe the Chevy will get sold and I'll buy a 240 or 740. Who knows...
