big update

for those who didnt hear...

THE CAR RAN

it may have only been on one cylender, and it may have had most of jon's ignition system on it.  but it made loud explosions until jon turned off the ecu.

oh this also means that lou has to drive it, illegal as hell, to my new house on econ.  (way to not think it would ever run lou)

I'm pretty stoked on the fact that its running too.

So who wants to take a guess at why the other 3 cylinders arent firing?

It has spark at all 4 cylinders. I didnt have a timing light so I couldnt check to see if it happened at the right time or not. All of the injectors are wired properly and have 12v. The fuel pump makes plenty of pressure but the cylinder that did run was the one closest to the pump.

Actually after typing that and thinking about it. Its most likely the spark timing being way off. That would be why it back fired out the intake and synged the hair on my arm.

Dammit, Jon I'm sorry I couldn't make it out there, I ended up having some issues with rust getting into the fuel lines on the bike I needed to sort out. But it definitely sounds like the timing is uber off. Especially because everything else is 'working'. Did you want me to get a tower coil? If it will help, I will.

We do still need a tower coil since I used the one from my car. We also need some spark plug wires but I have no idea where to get those since custom ones will cost massive money and they need to have very long (that rubber part that plugs onto the spark plug)s so it will be tough finding a Ford to match that.

I used a universal set from Discount, and made my own. You can modify the terminals to fit, it's a pain, but doable. I can help on that account, and the tower, do you want a JY one? Or what? I have off the next few days, and it takes like .03 seconds to pull one out of a Ford.

That'd be awesome if you could help on the wires. The tower doesnt really matter as long as it has 2 coils and 4 posts. Almost any Ford one will work.

Is the car running reliably now? What made you choose not to use a stock ECU?

We actually havent worked on it since this post. The people that work on it are lazy and have been focusing on our own things. Thats changing however and we just got some parts so we should get going on it soon.

The reason we didnt use the stock ecu is simple. I couldn't find it. The engine came from my old camry. When I parted the camry out I kept the motor and I put the ecu and wiring harness in a box.  However, I never found that box.

yeah we've be all caught up on doing our things lately, but its definitely time to get back to working on the mr2. We've got the car to fire, but i believe it wasn't running on all 4 cylinders.
