hey guys, i need some advice on what kind and size of tires to get. Can I mess around with the size at all. What is on my civic right now is 195/60/15, can i go one step up and get 205/54/15? would that hurt my performance because of improper fitting or would the wider tread give me better traction in turns. I was looking at sams today, and I saw 4 bridgestone potenzas for $325. are those decent tires? I think they were H rated and had a treadware rating of 400 or something? how do I know what tires are good for dry cornering, they had a traction rating for straight, wet stopping, but that's all I saw. Is buying tires from Sams a bad choice? I kinda need them soon, if not this weekend. Thanks for your help. -Eric my car: 05 civic coupe lx, no power, just want some traction, 15" stock wheels, not alloys. thanks.
I have Falken Ziex ZE 512's and I love them. Awesome wet traction and they are super cheap. For size wise, I would stick to the stock size. If you went higher (205) you would have more side wall flex, and the steering would feel sloppy. If you went to a 185, the sidewall would stretch and become stiffer, but you would lose that all so important foot print.
It is really up to you, but the 60 series tire is alot of side wall, so no matter what you do it is going to be **** ton of flex.

Well like ian said stick to the stock size. I have the flakens on the miata and they are good and kinda sticky ever now and then i can hear them pick up rocks. Also edgeracing.com has them put not in stock. I would give them a call and see when they plan on getting more in cause they are 41 a tire plus shipping and they are in miami so you will get them in like a day or two.
205/50/15 thats the size you need to go with. also what kind of funds do you have? do you have the ability to have two sets of wheels/tires? if so then you can look at some Falken Azenis or Hankook RS-2's to start off with. those types of tyres don't last very long. look to get about 10,000 miles out of thim if your lucky. bfgoodrich makes a decent tyre to start off with. it lasts longer and still has good all-around grip in heat/wet/cold. what i would recommend would be to start off with a decent tyre. it will help teach you about the weaknesses and strenths of your car/suspension setup. you also need a tyre that will last a while and do good in rain. alot of competition tyres don't do well in certain situations. Azenis WILL heat up, and don't tread water well. Hankook RS-2's do good with wet, don't do well with heat. front wheel drive cars will chew up front tyre for the necessity negative camber. therefore a really soft tyre won't last as long because it's working twice as hard. i'll post the link in the next post for the tyre. but in short, get a decent tyre that will allow you to do alot of events and get you through florida's showers at the track and home. look for a tyre that is easy on the pocket the bfg's will go for $316 plus shipping from tirerack.com. if you plan on going to gainesville i would definitly get a tyre that better deals with heat. azenis won't last but 4 laps before they get greasey. And i'll show you this at the next gainesville since all i have to run on are azenis. everyone hear at CFTC has there own view and advice, and i would take everyone's in the consideration equally.

oh yes. i agree with ian about sidewall flex. but with the smaller 50 series sidewall and it being a high performance tyre AND running correct pressures are all combatants against the evil sidewall flex.

I just ordered them. 195/50/15 falken ziex 512's , ebay baby! total, 4 tires shipped to my door, $212.00. Good deal? I thought so. Now where in orlando can I get them put on for cheap, but still done right? or can someone from here do it? Thanks for your help, I'm really excited to get some real tires on my stock little civic.
I should have them by Thursday, but I can't go to gainseville, I work 9-5 on saturday, disappointing I know. But it'll give me time to get my tires on and broken in for Deland on the 22nd. Is anyone else going to that autox? I might be bringing a couple people from work. does anyone know if my tires were a good deal? or did I pay too much? just wondering. Thanks again! Louis, I'll call you when they arrive!
great deal on the tyres. tyres are one thing that take time and experince. it took me several different types of tyres and talking to millions ( its seems like that many ) of people about their own experince. One thing i would recommend is to not buy the same tyres over again. not until you've tried a few to experince their strengths and weaknesses.

Where are we meeting before we head out, the same gas station? and what time too. I might have several people coming with, but I'm gonna see if they'll sleep at my apt sat. night so I can prevent them from being late and holding us up or something. Louis, did you ever find when your friend is available, I want my tires on by sunday, that's all I want. I am free wednesday after 2:00pm, that would be the easiest day for me just to let you know. I'm so excited. I can't wait to autox again. it is addicting. ok, I'm done. just reply or call, 941-224-8156 thanks.
