As of late, my 233K mile car has been: 1. Hunting for idle. And sounding like poo. 2. Lightly back firing (pop) during shifts, usually on the 1-2 shift and some times while in gear while slowing down. 3. Loss of power above 5 grand. That is where the fun used to begin.
As of today and tonight: Earlier, felt slow. Just didn't want to come off the line in traffic and so I just took it easy. Then tonight I had to bring a friend to drop her car off at Toyota. On the way there, it was doing the same, but when I was waiting for her to put her keys in the overnight drop, it just shut off. Let it sit till she got in the car and it started right up.
So after I dropped her off, I was on the 50mph zone on Alafaya so I did a 30 mph roll on in second, at first it did ok till about 4500rpm when it bogged out, to the point where it slowed down then it backfired. Think 18 gauge shot-gun back fire.
I don't know what is going on, I am going to run the compression tomorrow afternoon and see if I can get this thing to last a bit longer. But the last time I ran the compression #3 was off by about 8-10 PSI and the rest were right in the very-sweet spot.
Oh and I need lower control arms.
I just don't want it to die. I do want another car, back in something RWD, working on the job situation as we speak, so I just need it to last. I have been super nice to it for the past 1500+ miles or so, so I was thinking it could just be carbon build up, so that is why I just tried to beat the **** out of it, but she doesn't want to play nice.
Sorry for the vague-ness, I just not looking forward to having to deal with dead car right now. Such a ****ing fun car when its living too.

Yeah, I am not getting any codes either. I am about to tear into it, just going to get some lunch first. She is running about the same as of right now, so we'll see what the deal.

The compression numbers are actually higher then what the FSM states as normal, that and the spark plugs are super fouled. So I am thinking I have a fueling problem (well I pretty much know its a fueling problem), I don't know if I have leaky injectors, or if the fuel pump is bad, or the fuel pressure regulator is crapped out because I don't have a fuel pressure gauge. Also, the MAF could be bad, but no codes it leading me more to the fuel system. That and I checked the spark, and it looks very strong.
Right now I am trying to solve the carbon build up issue, I tried to use some Mopar decarb but it was just way too much fuel and the motor kept stalling out...with the Throttle pegged open. So I just took the spark plugs out and sprayed it down in the combustion chamber. Ill let it sit for a little bit longer, and I just took a shower because when it stalled out the last time, it sprayed decarb all over my arms and neck..that **** BURNS.
So my plans: Unplug the MAF *just thought about that Unplug the O2 Check to see if the fuel pump is work right...some how. Oh and rag the piss out of it.

So Wednesday night, after my last post. I went outside to start it up and try a few more things. It wouldn't start. Really pissed me off, because I made it worse. SO after many attempts and fiddling with everything I could, I finally got it started, but only by keeping my foot on the gas. So trying to diag it was impossible because I couldn't get under the hood fast enough to keep it running.
This morning, a friend of mine (Eric) and his friend (Rick, with a P10 G20 with SR20DET) came over to help. With Eric in the car, we could get it started and keep it running. I first tried the MAF, no change, then the TPS and the O2 sensors, still nothing. So while I was unplugging everything else I pulled off the vacuum line for the FPR. GAS SHOT OUT OF THE FERKING THING. Well didn't shoot out, but it was a good amount.
This is where it gets good. Not only did we find that within ten minutes of getting started, Rick has a fuel rail sitting in his garage. FREE-BE. He just wanted the injectors out of it, which wouldn't come out, so we swapped rails.
What a bitch by the way, the fuel rail looks easy to take off an such, but two hours later I was just putting the new one on. After I got it running, it took awhile to get all the excess gas out of the intake and everywhere else. But I drove it all the way out to Mims, down I-95 (On ramp up to 115), to 520 and back home. I really don't know how many miles that was, but it was enough.
She is running great again, the idle is still a little off, but I can deal with that. I am just super happy I have my car back.
